A Merry Christmas Morning for Our Heroes

Press Release

Date: Dec. 12, 2014
Location: Raleigh, NC

Governor Pat McCrory and First Lady Ann McCrory will host a Christmas Military Appreciation event for military families from throughout North Carolina tomorrow at the Executive Mansion.

The governor's military affairs adviser, General Cornell Wilson, will join the governor and first lady as they continue tradition and welcome families from: Ft. Bragg; Seymour Johnson Air Force Base; 30th Brigade Combat Team; National Guard; Camp Lejeune; Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune; MCAS New River Jacksonville; Cherry Point; Coast Guard (Elizabeth City and USCG North Carolina in Wilmington); and Electronic Systems Support Detachment Southport.

"Coming from a military family myself, I truly enjoyed putting this event together for everyone to come and enjoy family and friends, the house and to know what a strong support system they have," said First Lady McCrory. "My office teamed up with the USO, Support Military Spouses and the National Guard to set up the Military Appreciation Christmas Tree with handmade ornaments for official family photos, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Victorian Carolers, Docents, coloring and Christmas cookies, of course. We are forever thankful for our state's military's and military families' service and sacrifices."

"North Carolinians have so much to be grateful for this holiday season, and much of that is due to our military and military families," Governor McCrory said. "They protect us year-round, and it's the least we can do to honor them at Christmas and show our gratitude. My administration stays committed to keeping our state the 'Most Military-Friendly' in the nation, and we will not stop working to ensure North Carolina provides opportunities for growth and prosperity to members of our armed forces."
